Based on Industry 4.0 concepts, this platform runs in an XMPP server cloud and compiles IEC 61850-8-2 XMPP and IEC 61850-7-420 protocols for DER (Distributed Energy Resource) via a plug & play gateway. The gateway converts IEC 61850 -7-420 into IEC 61850-8-2 XMPP, which is the standard for DERs. The TR-069 protocol is also integrated to the gateway for performing device management, remote firmware upgrade, policy scheduling, and auto diagnostics.

The new solution is built with PaaS, a platform developed by Works Systems for device management and data analytics, using a TR-069 agent, a communication protocol for telecommunication applications. Additionally, the technology employs CIM (Common Information Model), which can be extended to other platforms in smart grid domains, such as ADMS, SCADA, CBM, Demand Response, Microgrid, EMS, and MDMS.

With the new Smart Grid Platform, Taiwan Power Company will be able to manage distributed solar energy or wind power efficiently in the future.
